Scope of Work
Pow Pro Construction was contracted to repair severely corroded pipe supports for a pipeline located on the inshore side of the main dock at the Sprague Bridgeport Terminal. The project encompassed the installation of temporary supports, removal of the corroded steel components of the two pipeline supports, surface preparation and application of rust inhibitor to new steel, installation of new pipeline sections, and final coating application.
Structural Challenges
The primary challenge was the severe corrosion impacting the existing pipe supports. Working in a marine environment presents inherent difficulties, including potential exposure to salt water and fluctuating tides, which can accelerate corrosion and impact material handling. Ensuring the safe and stable installation of temporary supports while removing and replacing critical pipeline components also required careful planning and execution. The presence of existing infrastructure and the need to minimize disruption to terminal operations added further complexity.
Results & Impact
Pow Pro Construction successfully completed the repair project within the designated timeframe. The severely corroded pipe supports were replaced with new steel components, treated with rust inhibitor for long-term protection. The new pipeline sections were installed and coated, ensuring the continued safe and efficient operation of the pipeline. The installation of the temporary supports enabled the repair work to be completed safely and effectively. The project mitigated the risk of pipeline failure due to the corroded supports and extended the lifespan of the pipeline infrastructure.
